Hamilton College Pedestrian Bridge and Pathway Replacement

Enhancing Campus Circulation with a Safer, More Accessible Crossing

DOC led the full replacement of a 196-foot pedestrian bridge near the campus pond and regraded the adjacent pathway to improve safety, accessibility, and pedestrian flow for the Hamilton College community. The new bridge is two feet wider than the original and features LED lighting and a snow-melt system, ensuring year-round usability in all seasons.

Maintaining uninterrupted campus access throughout construction was a top priority. DOC implemented temporary ADA-compliant detours and coordinated closely with campus facilities staff to minimize disruption, keeping work moving safely and on schedule.

Partnering with Voith & Mactavish Architects, Thornton Tomasetti, Kohler Ronan, Stimson, and O’Donohoe Lighting, DOC executed the design of this aesthetically pleasing and sound structure that enhances campus circulation, meets modern accessibility standards, and provides a safer, more functional connection for students, faculty, and visitors alike.
